Information Technology Lesson

Information Technology

If you’ve never heard of or seen the term “IT”, then you’re in a minority my friend! 😊 On the other hand, a lot of people have heard of it, but don’t really understand it. Does IT simply mean computers, programming and WIFI? Let’s understand the expression “information technology” first. What is information?

Information is data. Here’s a definiton of “information” from Google: “facts provided or learned about something or someone.” If you look carefully at the word itself, you will see the prefix “in” and the root “form”. To make into a form. Information is about giving some form to all the bits of data or facts. You can shape information into lists, books, languages (including programming languages) etc.

Now, let’s define the term “Information Technology”: the study or use of systems (especially computers and telecommunications) for storing, retrieving, and sending information.

A system, to make it simple, is a few things working together for one purpose. For example, the wheels and all other parts on your bike work together. That’s a system. In terms of IT, let’s understand how IT works on the example of an electric teapot or kettle. First, one component or part of the teapot makes the temperature of the water rise. Then, another component is monitoring the temperature in the teapot. Next, when the temperature rises to a certain level, this information is being sent or transferred to the third component of the teapot. Based on this data, the fourth component makes the teapot turn itself off.

The IT industry makes applications or apps, microchips and computer programs not only for our smartphones and laptops, but also for devices and systems that are used in medicine, agriculture, business, government and literally everywhere! Have you heard of Ilon Musk’s latest experiment: the pig with a chip? Now there’s a pig with a microchip in his brain.

If you want to earn a lot of money, have a great career and help humanity and the Planet, then you may think about getting involved in (the) IT industry.

Write a comment below sharing your thoughts on IT industry. Do you like the IT industry? Are you already involved in it? 🥰

Do you like Information Technologies? What areas and aspects of it do you like the most? Is there anything that you don’t like about IT? Do you have some concerns over robots, artificial intelligence etc?
